Аңыз means “legend” in Kazakh. Anyzfilm is an animation studio from Kazakhstan that tells the history, myths and folk tales of the nomadic peoples through hand-drawn 2D animation — from the friendship between an eaglet and a hunter to the heroic journey of the Saka “Golden Man”.

The Golden Man Алтын Адам

Inspired by the Saka “Golden Man” unearthed at the Issyk burial mound. A young heir must prove he is worthy of power — and on his adventure discovers that true gold lies in kindness, honesty and humanity. Hand-drawn 2D animation brings the colours of ancient murals and architecture back to life. Released in cinemas across Kazakhstan on 5 June 2025.

Directed by Turdybek Maidan and Tilek Toleugazy. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Centre for Support of National Cinema.

Muzbalak film key art

Muzbalak Мұзбалақ

A friendship built on trust between a golden eagle and a hunter — and the eagle’s battle with a dragon. Made over two years by around 40 Kazakh animators, the film has won awards in Germany, Russia and Kazakhstan.

An ethnographic short about the Kazakh tradition of hunting with golden eagles, showing the ancient art of training birds of prey in a way children love. The directors’ first film together.

Kazakhstan can tell

In 1967 Amen Khaidarov made the first Kazakh animated film and founded the country’s animation tradition. Anyzfilm carries that line forward: we find our subjects in folk legends, archaeological discoveries and nomadic life, and retell them for a new generation in a contemporary 2D language.

We bring together national character and an auteur’s voice. Every character and every ornament has a source — yet our stories are about the courage, trust and kindness that any child in the world understands.
